Home growing, written down
Trying to grow
better weed.
Building the tools I wish I had. I’m Jason. I grow at home, get things wrong and write it down. This is where the projects live.

- 9,572 strains on file
- 901 with lab numbers
- 134 flowering times, straight from breeders
- No email sign-up
- 0 trackers on this site
- The app: building
- The garage lab: still mostly a garage
- The tools: live
A made-up grow, to show the app
Day 1. New grow.
The app will ask for a name. Everything else can wait, or never happen.
Veg. Log what you feel like.
A tap for water. A photo. A voice memo when your hands are dirty. There’s no such thing as an incomplete entry.
It counts the days so you don’t.
Day and week of the grow, day and week of the phase. Worked out from dates, so fixing a date fixes everything.
Flip to flower. Now it compares.
The counter goes next to what the strain is supposed to do, and next to what it did for you last time.
Some weeks you log nothing.
It won’t mention it. No streaks and no “you missed a day”. The count keeps going whether you show up or not.
I called it ready.
The trichomes disagreed. Mr Dookie had no comment. The app will never tell you to harvest. It shows the count and leaves the call to you.
Chop. Dry. Next one.
The whole grow stays on the phone, and the next one starts with what this one taught you.
Projects
What I’m up to.
Everything here has an honest status. Some of it works. Some of it is a pile of parts.
AmIBaked Grow Journal
The grow journal app
A grow journal for my phone. No account. Works with no signal. Nothing leaves the phone unless I export it.

9,572 names. 901 with lab numbers. Most still need the growing part.

Harvest window, VPD and daily light. They run in your browser and keep nothing.
Do some mathSlow burnThe garage lab
Still mostly a garage. I’m done with tents, so it’s getting real walls and its own air conditioning. Demo comes first.

A version for the big screen. I’m building it for myself. If enough people want it, I’ll open it up.
One press. No email, no account.
Silly shirts
Shirts and stickers. “Support a local grower.” The local grower is me.

9,572 strains. Most are a name and not much else.
I pulled together open data: names, breeders and lab numbers from state-licensed labs. What’s missing is the growing part. 134 have a flowering time, and every one came from the breeder’s own page. I could use help with the rest.

Tools
Three calculations I got tired of doing in my head.
Flip + 8 to 9 weeks
Harvest window
Flip date plus the breeder’s weeks. Gives a window, never a verdict.
Open78°F · 60% · 1.12 kPa
VPD
Temperature and humidity in, vapor pressure deficit out, with a chart of where you sit.
Open600 PPFD × 18 h = 38.9 mol
Daily light
PPFD and hours on. How much light the plants get in a day.

The mascot
This is Mr Dookie.
He’s a fly. He showed up early and never left. He doesn’t say anything on this site. He watches me overwater things and keeps it to himself.
He does talk on his own site, where he runs a clothing line. Of course he does.

Notes as I go.
- October 4, 2026AppWhy I’m building a grow journal appI looked into what growers say about grow apps before any code got written. A lot of them went back to a notebook. Here’s what that taught me and what the app will do about it.
- September 24, 2026ExperimentExperiment 001: homemade auto-waterer vs self-watering potsSame room, same soil, two ways of watering, a sensor on each. This is how the test will run. I’ll post the result whatever it says.
- September 20, 2026BuildThe garage: the plan, in the order I have to do itOne garage bay, split into a place to build things and a place to grow. I’m done with tents. Nothing alive goes in until the room holds its temperature. Right now it’s still mostly a garage.
About to start a grow?
When testing opens, I’ll be looking for a few growers to try the app and tell me what’s wrong with it.
How testing will work
