The short version: I collect as little as I can. There are no analytics scripts, ad pixels or trackers on this site, and the app doesn’t send your grows anywhere.
The app
The AmIBaked Grow Journal app makes these promises, and the code is built to keep them:
- No account. There is no sign-up, login, email or password anywhere in the app.
- Your grows stay on your phone. Journal entries, photos and voice memos are stored on the device. The app sends them nowhere. They leave the phone when you export or back them up yourself, to wherever you choose.
- Your phone’s own backups. If your phone backs itself up to iCloud or Google, the app’s files go along with everything else on it, under your account. I never see them.
- Two network calls, at most. The app store’s own purchase flow if you buy the unlock, and a plain download of the public strain list if you switch that on. Neither carries your grow data or anything that identifies your device.
- No analytics, crash reporting or advertising code.
- Permissions when needed. Camera, microphone and notifications are asked for the first time you use the feature that needs them, and not before.
Because there’s no account, I can’t recover your data if you lose your phone without a backup. That’s the trade.
During testing, the stores’ own testing programs (TestFlight and Google Play) can send me crash reports and any feedback you choose to send. Those don’t include your journal.
This website
What the site stores in your browser:
- A cookie called
amibaked_agethat holds the word “ok” once you’ve confirmed you’re 21 or over, so you aren’t asked on every page. It lasts a year. If your browser refuses the cookie, the same word is kept in your browser’s storage for this site instead. - A cookie called
amibaked_voted, set only if you press “I want the web journal”. It holds “1” so the same browser isn’t counted twice. It lasts a year. - Your shopping cart, kept in your browser’s local storage. It isn’t sent anywhere until you check out.
What happens when you use it:
- Searching strains and using the tools happens in your browser. What you type isn’t sent to the server.
- The “I want the web journal” button adds one to a daily count, kept in a database hosted by Supabase. No IP address, ID or email is stored with it. Your browser never talks to that database; the site’s server does.
- Server logs. The company that hosts the site (Vercel) keeps standard logs of requests, which include IP addresses, as any web host does. I don’t use them to track anyone.
- Fonts are served from this site, not from Google.
The shop
- You pay on a page run by Stripe. Stripe collects your name, email, shipping address and card details. This site never sees your card number.
- To get an order made and mailed, I pass your name and address from Stripe to the print company that makes it. I’ll name that company here when the shop opens.
- My own records hold what was ordered, the totals and Stripe’s reference for the payment, which is how I look an order up. They don’t hold your name, email or address. Those stay with Stripe.
If you email me, I’ll have your address and whatever you wrote. I use it to reply. There’s no newsletter and I don’t add you to anything.
Strain data
The strain library is built from open datasets and breeders’ own pages. It contains no personal data. Sources are credited on each page.
Children
This site and the app are for adults 21 and over.
Changes and questions
If any of this changes, this page changes first and the date at the top moves. Questions go to partners@amibaked.com.
