AmIBaked Grow Journal

A grow journal that stays on your phone.

No account. Works with no signal. Log as much or as little as you feel like, and it never tells you that you missed a day.

For iPhone and Android. Not in the stores yet.

The promise

No account.

No sign-up, no email, no password. Open it and start a grow.

Nothing leaves the phone.

Your grows are stored on the device. They go somewhere else only when you export them yourself.

No incomplete entries.

A grow needs a name. Every other field is optional. No streaks, no missed days, no guilt.

I looked into what growers say about grow apps before any code got written. The reasons that kept coming up for quitting one were guilt about missed days, apps that wanted to know too much about them, and apps that vanished with their data. So those three things are the rules. The long version.

Version one

What it does on day one.

A ten-second log

One tap for watered, fed, a note, a photo or a voice memo. The memo is for when your hands are covered in dirt.

It counts for you

Day and week of the grow and of the phase, including days since flip. Fix a date and every count fixes itself.

The count, next to the strain

What day you’re on, what the strain is supposed to take, and what it took you last time. A grow with several strains gets a line for each.

Photos in order

A timeline per grow, saved on the phone. No upload to get stuck.

Reminders, if you ask

Watering every few days, a heads-up before a flip or a harvest window. You set them. It never nags on its own.

Harvest and history

Wet weight, dry weight, days per phase. Next time you run that strain, the last run is right there.

Everything comes out

A report, your full data and your photos, as files. Back up to your own drive. If I vanish, your grows don’t.

A lock

Face, fingerprint or your phone’s passcode, because it’s nobody’s business.

Not in version one: video, a calendar view, photo analysis, sensors, a forum, any kind of feed. Some of those come later. A few never will.

The first question it asks

How much do you want to write down?

Some grows I want every number. Some grows I just want to know what day it is. Pick one and see what the app shows.

Nothing here is required. Photos are optional at every level. So is everything else, down to the note.

Quick log

An entry offers

  • Date
  • Note
  • Which plants
  • Photos, optional
  • Voice memo
  • Problem
  • Water amount(under “more fields”)
  • Nutrients and dose(under “more fields”)
  • pH(under “more fields”)
  • EC or PPM(under “more fields”)
  • Temperature(under “more fields”)
  • Humidity(under “more fields”)
  • Height(under “more fields”)
  • Training(under “more fields”)

The grayed-out ones are one tap away under “more fields”. You can change the level in the middle of a grow.

What it costs

Free, with one honest limit.

One grow at a time in each of pre-veg, veg and flower. That’s a full rotation for a lot of people. A one-time purchase removes the limit. No subscription.

  • The limit only applies when you start a new grow. Moving a grow to the next phase is never blocked.
  • Reading and exporting your grows always work, paid or not.
  • The free tier never shrinks for someone who already has it.
  • The price of the unlock isn’t set yet. I’ll post it here before launch.

Testers

Try it before it’s ready.

Testing will run through the stores’ own beta channels: TestFlight on iPhone, open testing on Google Play. The links will be posted right here. There’s no sign-up form, because I don’t want your email.

Not open yet

The best tester is someone about to start a grow.

  • Use it for one real grow, start to jar.
  • Tell me what annoyed you. That’s the useful part.
  • Your journal stays on your phone during testing too. I can’t see it. The stores may send me crash reports.

Feedback goes to partners@amibaked.com.

On hold

A web journal, for the big screen.

I’m building a browser version for myself, for typing with a keyboard and looking at charts. It would need accounts, so it’s a different promise from the app. If enough people want it, I’ll open it up.

2 so far

One press. No email, no account.

Questions I’d ask

Does it tell me when to harvest?

No. It shows the count next to what the strain usually takes and what it took you before. The trichomes decide. I’ve been wrong often enough not to automate it.

What happens if I lose my phone?

If you never made a backup, the grows are probably gone. Your phone’s own iCloud or Google backup may have them, but don’t count on it. That’s the trade for not having an account. The app will make backing up to your own files or cloud drive quick, and show when the last one was.

What does the app send over the internet?

Two things, ever. The store’s own purchase flow if you buy the unlock. And, only if you switch it on, a plain download of the public strain list, which carries nothing about you. No analytics, no crash reporting, no ad code.

iPhone or Android?

Both, from the same code.

Is it only for cannabis?

It’s built around how a cannabis grow goes: veg, flip, flower, dry, cure. Tomatoes are welcome but they’ll find the vocabulary odd.
